We work with business owns on every aspect of their business, in recognition of the impact in one area has on all other areas, adopting a step by step approach, testing and measuring throughout.

It is only when a business is in balance, across all functional areas, with effective systems and processes throughout, can growth be sustainable an provide the owner with the opportunity  to manage their business or further graduate to a non-managerial ownership role.

In a number of instances we are brought in by the business owners where they are experiencing acute difficulties. In the first instance, working with the client to resolve this pressure is likely to be the immediate priority. The underlying causes can be many and varied, but usually arise through an imbalance in the business, typically resulting in one or more of the following:
  • The business is placing extreme demands on the owner in terms of their commitment and time
  • The business has become less profitable or is heading for a loss and is failing to provide the owner with a satisfactory income and return on their investment
  • The market share of the business is being eroded by competitors and the owner feels powerless to counter this
  • The owner finds themself embroiled in the day to day operations of the business and feels frustrated as they seem unable to find the time to develop the business
  • The original vision and ambitions they had for their business seem increasingly remote and despite their frustration they try to reconcile their predicament as the norm
  • The owner’s plans fail to translate into action when delegated to staff and the owner feels that the only way is to take on the work themselves, but simply do not have the time
  • The business has developed organically and has become unable to exploit opportunities
  • The owner would like to sell their business but as they are the business they are unable to do so

We will help you develop and implement a plan for your business

We will work with you to develop and implement a plan for your business. This is distinct from a conventional business plan, which merely amounts to a document setting out intentions. The plan for your business will focus on the entire process of our working together ranging from identifying and setting out your personal goals, your vision for your business and how this will be achieved, in terms of objectives, strategies, tactics, resources, system and processes.

All bases will be covered, including planning, marketing, production or operations, people, technology, finance, accounting and administration and critically the programme, reflecting your plan for your business, will focus throughout on facilitating and achieving three essential outcomes:
  • Competing effectively in your chosen markets
  • Sustainable growth in profits with positive cash flow
  • Leveraging the owners from operational roles to managerial or pure ownership roles

Working with us

In the first instance we will meet with you and any other owners of your business and let you tell us about your business and your views and feelings about it, your plans, concerns, enthusiasm, frustrations and will prompt with questions arising from the conversation.

We will want to gain an understanding of where the business is, how you feel about this, where you want the business to be in the future and how this ties in with your aspirations and as to how you see the business getting there and what specific steps you may have in place to get there. At the same time, this meeting provides an opportunity for you to gain an understanding of how we might work together.

If we believe we can help we will seek a second meeting to explore and establish the scope of a programme and take instructions. At this meeting we will probe further, to ensure that the programme reflects your needs, resources and expectations.

We will then agree a schedule of face to face sessions, usually fortnightly or three weekly, to discuss, plan and review at each stage. We can then get started. We will be constantly in touch with you and encourage a dialogue between sessions.

Typically a client programme will take between four and twelve months, depending on the extent of the brief, the amount of work to be undertaken and the intensity of the programme. We also continue to work with clients, on an ongoing and less intensive basis, providing them with support to maintain momentum and a sounding board as they continue to develop their businesses.

We will only seek to work with a business owner if we are confident that we can work with them and help them achieve their desired outcomes. We will not over promise and believe that our clients need to be clear on what the outcomes of our input will be.
